Now that Manchester United are finally linked to a Sporting player, the Portuguese press can write about it every time the Red Devils watch one of their games.

It had been over a year since José Mourinho started sending scouts to watch every single Sporting match, and now that Rafael Leão is said to be of interest, local papers know what the scouts were there for.

This time, Record reports club emissaries watched Sporting’s away match against Chaves, which the Lions won 2-1 and got back in the title race. They say Rafael Leão’s evolution is being monitored by the Red Devils.

Now there’s a very interesting detail and it’s that Rafael Leão was not involved in the match. He didn’t even travel for the game as he had an injury, so Record basically points out that interest for no real reason.

Manchester United may will have been left impressed with Bas Dost, who scored his 29th goal this season, or with midfielders Rodrigo Battaglia and Ruben Ribeiro, who both had great displays. But definitely not with Rafael Leão.

Manchester City are the other club who said to be keeping an eye on the winger, and even get a mention in the story, even though their emissaries weren’t at the match… the match Rafael Leão didn’t play in.
