Manchester United have again turned their attention to Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić after a move for Adrien Rabiot fell by the wayside.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Serbian is the ‘new midfield prospect’ on transfer agenda at Old Trafford.

They explain that Manchester United are ‘multiplying the leads’ to strengthen their midfield after frustrations in their efforts to sign Frenkie de Jong and then Rabiot.

Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen the position, particularly after the start to the season, in which Fred and Scott McTominay have failed to impress the Dutchman.

United are now in ‘dire straits’ with two weeks of the window remaining and have decided to increase their options before they cannot.

Real Madrid’s Casemiro is a target, but they have also decided to ‘revive a long-standing lead’ and move for Milinkovic-Savic.

He has been a potential target for the best part of four years and Manchester United are now working to ‘find out the conditions’ to make a transfer happen after having ‘returned’ for him ‘in the past few hours’.

‘Discussions with the player’s agent’ have already taken place but it remains to be seen if the 27-year-old will finally ‘take the plunge’ and depart Lazio after years of being linked with a move away.

If he does do that, United are keen once again and while no offer has been made as yet, this recent approach clearly shows an intent to give Erik ten Hag some new bodies before the end of the transfer window.
