Lazio star Sergej Milinković-Savić has been linked to Manchester United in the past summer windows and continued to be named as a target for the Premier League side.
Corriere dello Sport point this out in today’s edition of the newspaper as they state the Red Devils have ‘already dealt’ with the 27-year-old ‘in the past’.
Manchester United will have to strengthen their midfield in the next window and the need to do so will further increase if Paul Pogba decides to leave Old Trafford as a free agent for the second time in his career. His contract expires in June.
The likely scenario of Pogba leaving the English club as a free agent is the ‘fundamental reason’ why they are ‘in the running’ for Milinković-Savić.
It’s claimed Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are the two clubs who ‘remain in pole position’ to sign the Serbia international.
If Pogba ends up at PSG, then it would close the block the former Genk man moving to Paris. Should the Frenchman return to Juventus, then it would see the latter shift their focus away from Maurizio Sarri’s man.
Mateja Kežman, the Lazio star’s agent, is set to have meetings with his client’s potential suitors in the ‘next 15-20 days’ and then have a meeting with the Serie A side ‘within a month’.
Milinković-Savić’s sale in the summer should see Lazio earn between €70m and €80m.
