Since Darwin Nunez started standing out for Benfica, Manchester United have been pointed out as one of the main contenders to sign him. Even today, the Portuguese media had a story claiming the Red Devils are one of the favourites to land the striker this summer.

However, as the French press now brings an update on the player’s situation, it’s actually claimed that the 22-year-old has turned down the possibility of an Old Trafford move.

RCM Sport today writes that Manchester United would be ready to spend €80m to sign Nunez. However, his wish of playing in the Champions League is blocking that hypothesis.

The outlet points out the striker has a ‘special history’ with the competition, as he scored many important goals in the tournament this season. He’s looking forward to doing more in the next edition, and that’s not something the Red Devils can offer him.

Regarding the other couple of clubs in the race, Newcastle United are going through the same situation as Manchester United, as the Magpies aren’t qualified for the European competition either.

Meanwhile, despite confirming the interest from Paris Saint Germain, RMC writes that the French side are still to engage in ‘concrete’ negotiations for the transfer.

This sounds very much like an article from a French source which favours the French side.
