Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reported Manchester United are among the sides ‘interested in the situation’ of Ousmane Dembélé.
His contract expires in 2022 and the efforts made by Barcelona to tie him down to a new deal are yet to come to fruition.
Another Catalan outlet, Sport, now brings us the latest development on the negotiations between the two parties and their title reads: ‘Key hours for Dembélé’s future at Barca’.
The Blaugrana are ‘trying by all means’ to secure the winger’s future with formulas that can satisfy all parties. It’s claimed the negotiations are in the final stretch and an outcome could be reached either this week or next.
As per the report, the 24-year-old’s camp would be open to signing a short-term contract, for two years. Sport say this solution is possible, provided the negotiation for another extension is done within a year.
The ‘main obstacle’ is the financial aspect of the deal. He needs to lower his salary and stake a large part of the wages on bonuses. .
The former Borussia Dortmund man’s continuity isn’t easy, even though he feels settled at the Camp Nou and doesn’t want to change clubs to establish himself as an important player elsewhere.
However, the attacker is also attentive to his agent, who has assured he can double his salary by leaving Barca. Sport say Manchester United are one of the three clubs, along with Chelsea and Juventus, who are ‘pushing the most’ to sign the France international.
With the Red Devils among the interested parties, the report adds it will not be a surprise if Paris Saint-Germain decide to join the chase.
Sport further states: ‘They [Barcelona] are pressing the footballer to confirm his decision before the return of the holidays and in the next few hours more contacts will take place that can be decisive.’
A decision to not to renew will come as a welcome boost for United and other suitors in the race to sign Dembélé on a free transfer next summer.
