The Portuguese media is quite surprised with reports about Manchester United interest in SC Braga defender David Carmo.
The local press has no original reports about this interest so far, so all they’ve been doing is replicating what’s said in England and giving their stance on it.
Today, newspaper A Bola is covering a piece from Manchester Evening News which compares David Carmo to Liverpool’s van Dijk
They clearly didn’t expect such a comparison.
Regarding the possibility of a deal, A Bola points out that Roma couldn’t take David Carmo away from Braga last summer, as the Italian side only offered €17m, and he was protected by a release clause of €20m at that stage.
Just last week, Carmo agreed to a new five-year deal with Braga, which raised his release clause to €40m. A Bola points out it doesn’t seem to be a problem for Manchester United, at least according to what’s being said in England.
It’s a little unusual to see a Premier League side coming after a Portuguese player without the knowledge of the Portuguese media. And it’s even more surprising for the player to be hyped more in England than he is in Portugal.
