Once again, Manchester United have sent an official to watch one of Benfica’s league games.
This time it was a home match against Feirense, which the Eagles won 4-0 with goals from Eduardo Salvio, Franco Cervi and Alex Grimaldo.
Portuguese newspaper Record are the ones who report the visit, also mentioning that Manchester United have Gonçalo Guedes as a target.
The 19-year-old has been having a good season so far and had another decent match this Sunday. He was already linked to a few English clubs, but United are by far the ones who have been watching Benfica most.
The Jorge Mendes client has a €60m release clause in a contract which runs until 2021. These conditions are almost a pattern among Benfica’s youngsters.
Record also takes claims from the British press which say that Alex Grimaldo is on José Mourinho’s wanted list, but this time they give all the credit to those who theoretically reported it first.
The funny thing is that these links between English clubs and Grimaldo first came from Portugal. The local press even made up a story saying Pep Guardiola went to watch the player personally a few weeks ago, which Sport Witness soon learned was false.
It’s an usual thing for the Portuguese media to do, creating a story and then passing the ball to the international media.
