It’s well known that Roma are still looking to sign an attacking midfielder for the season. The talks for Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City are all over the Italian media today, but in case they fail to land the player, there a few other options in their list.
As reported by newspaper Corriere Dello Sport today, their Plan B is to sign Lucas Vasquez from Real Madrid. Florentino Perez would be demanding €30m, which makes him cheaper than Mahrez.
Then come the other options, which would be Juan Cuadrado from Juventus and Juan Mata from Manchester United. It’s claimed that Roma still haven’t made any contact for the Spaniard, since he’s basically their fourth option. But in case the other transfers don’t go through, which is possible, especially in the case of Cuadrado, then Mata is one on the list.
The Manchester United player is unlikely to be a regular starter this season, but is still far from being disposable. With 42 appearances, the 29-year-old was the fourth top scorer last season, which shows he’s still proving to be important under his old Chelsea boss.
That should mean that United wouldn’t allow him to go for less than the other targets Roma have in their radar, or at least that’s the theory that would make the most sense. Unless Mourinho suddenly decided to give Mata away.
