France won the World Cup after defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final as Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe got their names on the scoresheet.

The Manchester United midfielder was one of the standout players for his national side during the tournament, and videos emerged online and across various social media platforms showing the 25-year-old addressing his teammates inside the dressing room.

The Atletico Madrid forward explains Pogba’s emergence as a leader at the 2018 World Cup, especially behind the scenes, has “surprised” him and his teammates.

“Paul has really moved up a notch in the dressing room. He had the right words, which has pushed us,” Griezmann told French newspaper L’Equipe.

“Hugo [Lloris], Raph [Raphael Varane] and Blaise [Matuidi], we knew that they were there, but Paul, yes, we became more surprised and the way he spoke, it did us good.”

The Europa League winner stressed he has not shared his thoughts on Pogba with the player himself, and revealed he had to avoid eye contact when the Manchester United midfielder was giving motivational talks.

“(Griezmann laughs) Nah, not because of me, every time he speaks, I want to laugh. Paul is so used to the funny, which is why it surprises me,” he said.

“It is for this reason that when he speaks, Paul never looked at me. He knows that I would have a small smile, due to which he can laugh at any time.”

France are preparing his side for the UEFA Nations League as the world champions face Germany and Netherlands in the coming days.
