Donny van de Beek has endured a difficult start to his life in England since swapping Ajax for Manchester United in 2020.
The midfielder has been restricted to just over 500 minutes of action in the league, across 19 matches which included only four starts.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t given any minutes to the 24-year-old this season as Van de Beek, like majority of last season, had to settle for a place on the bench.
The Red Devils manager preferred 33-year-old Nemanja Matić ahead of the Netherlands international in his side’s 1-1 draw against Southampton last weekend.
After the tie, the Norwegian told reporters the former Ajax man will be ‘important’ for United this season. Solskjaer’s comments have brought some clarity to the Dutchman’s agent, Guido Albers, about his client’s situation at Old Trafford.
“Everyone in the club knows that Donny cannot have another season like last year,” Albers told De Telegraaf.
“The fans had already embraced him before, but the most important thing is that the trainer has now provided clarity to the English press.
“We are happy with that. And I assume that Donny will play a lot in one of the positions in midfield in the coming period.”
With Manchester United looking at Atlético Madrid’s Saúl Ñíguez late in the window, things could soon get even more difficult for the Dutchman.
