Juan Mata’s Manchester United contract expires in the summer and the Premier League club don’t have any further clauses to extend the deal.

Therefore his future is understandably under question and that’s leading to rumours of a return to Spain. Catalan newspaper newspaper Sport go with a headline saying the player ‘winks’ at Barcelona over a potential transfer.

A meeting has already been held and Barcelona aren’t ruling out the possibility of signing the player, with Valencia inevitably also linked because of Mata’s past with the club.

Despite all of that, Sport say it’s the Spaniard’s ‘priority’ right now to stay at Manchester United, but for that to happen the club need to make a renewal offer which he finds acceptable.

The insinuation from Sport is that they’ve spoken to Mata’s entourage, and the message being given is that he has another three years at the top level, which could indicate what sort of contract he’s looking for at Old Trafford.
