Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst has been urged to join PSV Eindhoven this summer, where he could be a key player under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, who believes the Dutch side should move for the striker if he leaves Manchester United as expected in the summer.
Weghorst is currently on loan at Old Trafford from Burnley, joining in the January transfer window as Erik ten Hag sought out a short-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Dutch striker has not proven to be the hit that Manchester United’s manager was hoping for, and the belief is that they won’t move to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer and instead sign the elite level striker that his side desperately needs.
That will leave Weghorst looking for a new club, with him unlikely to be a part of Vincent Kompany’s plans at Burnley either.
And Driessen believes that he should make a return to the Netherlands, where he would fit in nicely at PSV Eindhoven.
“If you want a guarantee of goals, you have to get Weghorst,” Voetbal Nieuws report him saying on the Kick Off podcast.
“You still have Luuk de Jong and then they want Lauritsen. I don’t know what will happen to De Jong then, but if you then choose a big striker who is headstrong and can achieve a lot in the sixteen, I would go for Weghorst.
“He was already almost the Netherlands’ top scorer at AZ, has become a seasoned and a regular international. I think he would not be out of place at PSV.
“I don’t know if he wants to return to the Netherlands himself. But if Feyenoord and PSV make it to the Champions League, of course it would be great to appear in it.”
