There’s always going to be gossip when the manager of a team picks his son, and that’s regardless of whether it’s at child level or in full internationals. Daley Blind was already a Dutch international before his father Danny got the job as manager, which will have helped, but now there are questions being asked about the Manchester United’s player’s place.
The problem is Danny Blind. Not exactly covering himself in glory as Netherlands manager yet, Blind Sr. has made several rash decisions and been accused of having double-standards. Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf cover it on Friday, and it’s explained that some players continue to be picked despite not getting regular games.
This happens in many national teams but the issue with Danny Blind is that he’s said he’ll only pick those who aren’t bench warmers, and then goes ahead and does the opposite with players seen as his favourites.
One of those is of course Daley Blind.
Blind’s last three appearances for Manchester United have all been in the Europa League, with Jose Mourinho now preferring other options for the Premier League.
Should the situation continue then it will be hard for Danny Blind to stand by his policy of picking first choice footballers whilst also calling Daley up.
