Following Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Peru on Thursday, the Celeste reached 25 points in the World Cup qualifiers and finally guaranteed their spot in the tournament.
That means there’ll be nothing on the table for them in tomorrow’s match against Chile. And for that reason, manager Diego Alonso won’t need to have his full squad available.
As reported by AS, Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri, currently on loan at Alavés, is already being sent back to Europe. Following his performance against Peru which helped Uruguay’s victory, he was released from the squad by his loan club’s request.
It’s claimed that Alavés negotiated with the national team so he could have a ‘quick return’ to Spain. That’s because the last time he was out for international matches, he missed one game due to fatigue from the long flights from South America.
Now he’s set to be available for his side’s game against Atletico Madrid on Saturday evening.
Facundo Pellistri was loaned by Manchester United to Alavés back in January 2021, and last summer had his spell renewed for a season. Contrary to the national team, where he’s a regular starter, the winger is still fighting for a place at the Spanish side.
Signed from Peñarol in an €8.5m deal, the player has a contract with the Red Devils running until 2025.
