Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes today gets big compliments in the Portuguese media.
The quotes come from national team manager Roberto Martinez, who’s pretty much satisfied about how the midfielder has been playing for his country lately.
The coach was interviewed by Agencia Lusa, and as relayed by O Jogo, he claimed the Manchester United player has been doing great in the Euro qualifiers.
“Bruno is a leader. During the game, he has a very active brain and can constantly appreciate what’s happening on the pitch,” said Martinez.
“He has a very, very high reading ability. And he can play in several positions. He made perfect qualifiers and played a very important role. He played in four different positions at a very high level.”
Playing for Portugal in the Euro Qualifiers so far, Bruno Fernandes has six goals and seven assists in just ten games.
Martinez’s side made a perfect campaign in the tournament and won all of their matches in a group which also had Slovakia, Luxemburg, Iceland, Bosnia and Liechtenstein. They scored 36 goals and only conceded two.
Those numbers are way better than at Manchester United, where he has six goals and five assists in 28 appearances.
Although those are two different levels of competition, that still shows how great Fernandes has been doing at Portugal, and why he’s been getting that kind of appreciation at the national team, where he now holds 63 caps.
