There are increasing claims in the Italian sport media about a summer exit for Matthijs De Ligt.
Friday’s edition of Tuttosport covers Juventus’ plans for the summer market, and to fund incomings, especially big ones such as AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, they’re going to need to bring some funds in.
Several fringe players were offloaded during the January window, and even then it was reported that De Ligt was a possible summer exit.
Calciomercato reports Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in signing the Dutchman, in what would be a huge transfer. Whilst De Ligt hasn’t been quite as good as some had expected, he’s just 22-years-of-age and has been a regular starter for the Turin club this season.
Mino Raiola’s decision to take his player to Juventus always looked like part of a possible longer term plan, with more money to be made down the road. That would naturally see clubs like Manchester United dragged in, even if a central defender doesn’t appear the club’s priority right now.
De Ligt is going to be in the rumour mill all the way to the summer, and it’s likely the Red Devils will continue to be linked, along with other huge European clubs, as there’s an effort to create the feeling of a battle for his signature.
Previous claims have put a transfer fee at over €100m, and Manchester United will likely feel that’s too much.
