In April, Fussball News stated Manchester United had ‘put out feelers’ for Rosenborg BK’s Sverre Nypan.
The Premier League side continue to keep tabs on the 17-year-old.
That’s according to Norway’s TV2, who state Manchester United had a scout in attendance at Åråsen Stadion on Sunday.
Rosenborg settled for a 1-1 draw during their trip to Lillestrøm SK. As well as the Red Devils, Bayer Leverkusen sent a scout to Norway.
TV2 believe the two clubs had their officials in attendance to take a closer look at Nypan. He was on the pitch for 72 minutes, after recovering from illness in the days leading up to the match.
The Norway U21 international initially joined Rosenborg’s academy and made his way into their first team in 2022. He’s been a regular this year, managing five goals and nine assists from 25 games.
With Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen watching him, TV2 asked Nypan if he ‘cares about it’. Responding to that, he insisted his focus is on regaining full fitness.
“No, to be completely honest. The only thing I care about is getting back to the form I was in before the illness,” he said.
“It’s been a bit heavy. From playing very good matches, to getting sick. It’s so typical that when things go well, you get sick. That’s life, but now it’s about building up, but it takes time.”
The youngster, who can operate as a striker or an attacking midfielder, doesn’t want to focus on interest from elsewhere.
“I didn’t know about it, so I don’t really think about it that much. That’s how it’s always going to be, so there’s nothing to worry about. I have to learn and deal with it, and I feel that I do,” Nypan explained.
Rosenborg manager Alfred Johansson is pleased that the versatile player isn’t distracted by top clubs following him.
“He focuses on enjoying football and training every day. It’s very impressive, and that’s how it should be, but not everyone would have been able to do it. That is strong of Sverre,” Johansson said.
On August 29th, Fussball News reported Nypan is a Manchester United fan. This may give Erik ten Hag’s side an edge over other clubs, if they want to sign him.
