When you’re a club as big as Manchester United, you tend to have scouts all over the world trying to identify the latest young talent.
No distance is too far in the search for the next big thing and it seems that search took United scouts to Mexico this week.
According to Fox Sports journalist Alex Blanco, Manchester United had scouts in attendance at the Estadio Nemesio Díez to watch Mexico take on Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly.
They were there alongside several other clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Real Betis, to keep an eye on José Juan Macías.
The young striker has been linked to Manchester United before now, with it believed they’re keeping an eye on him after some impressive performances for Mexico U21.
However, while he impressed, it was another young Mexican that reportedly caught the eye according to Blanco.
“At the national team match in Toluca, Manchester United scouts were visiting to watch José Juan Macías, but Córdova’s performance also caught their attention,” he told The Last Word programme.
Córdova was making his debut for the national side in the game and made it an evening to remember, with an assist for Jesus Angulo helping his side to a 2-0 win.
That was the highlight of a generally positive overall performance that was seemingly impressive enough to earn plaudits from the Manchester United scouts watching.
There’s no mention of what that might mean moving forward, but it seems likely United will be in attendance for the upcoming games against Bermuda and Panama with Córdova now on their watchlist alongside Macías.
