Manchester United scouted Anderlecht more than once before the Europa League tie. Nothing less would be expected of Jose Mourinho than such preparation, but that scouts continue to attend would suggest Manchester United are considering a transfer.
Anderlecht Online report (from DH) that Manchester United will have a scout attend the match tonight against Charleroi. There are several potential transfer options for Manchester United, including the obvious one.
In the Europa League this season, Tielemans has played centrally, both with and without attacking freedom. The 19 year old is very talented but it may be a little much to ask him to deal with the pressure of a Manchester United transfer, and the expectations of Mourinho.
Similar would go for 22 year old Leander Dendoncker, a more defensive player, who hasn’t quite caught the headlines as much as his teammate.
Given Manchester United’s problems in central defender, it’s perhaps worth considering Kara Mbodj. With Marcos Rojo out long term, Mourinho not seeing Daley Blind as a central defender, and the manager having issues with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, an addition, or additions, at the back could be expected.
Mbodj was Anderlecht’s best performer over the two legs against Manchester United, according to WhoScored, and has made no secret of his desire for a move to the Premier League. If Mourinho is planning a clear-out then 27 year old Mbodj may be seen as a reliable option.
He’d likely be available for less than €10m, a figure Anderlecht rejected in the winter window, all the while promising an easier summer move.
