Ronald Araujo’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of June 2023, and the club have been working to get the defender secured to a longer term deal.
Whilst the Uruguayan’s preference is to stay where he is, his agents have been irritated that he’s being offered less than what other first team players earn. Barca, for their part, have been trying to explain to Araujo’s camp that they don’t have a lot of money right now, but that stance wobbles in the face of what the Catalans are offering to potential free-agents for a summer move.
Manchester United are the Premier League side who have been linked the most with the defender, and they get a mention again from Sport on Wednesday. It’s explained Araujo has offers ‘on the table’ from both Ralf Ranginck’s side and Chelsea.
According to the report, Manchester United would be willing to either pay a fee and secure the signing in the next window, or wait until the South American could be a free-agent in summer 2023.
Sport say the player’s renewal situation is ‘complicated’ right now, which gives some hope to the Old Trafford club. Along with the Red Devils, PSG are now said to have moved forward for the potential signing.
