Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is a potential target for Elche, who are on the hunt for a new left-back in January.
That’s according to Información, who say the Argentine is one of three players that the Spanish club are looking at.
The website explains that Elche are keen to add to their squad this month as they look to reinforce in key areas and ensure they avoid relegation from La Liga.
One of their main objectives is to sign either one or two left-backs, with that position having been a problem one in the first half of the campaign.
They’ve drawn up a list of three potential signings to fix the issue, and Manchester United’s Rojo is one of them.
Información say he holds a ‘preferential place’ on the aforementioned list, with his ability to play at left-back and centre-back meaning he could solve two problems.
He is keen to leave Manchester United as soon as possible after returning from a loan spell in the summer, and they are ‘about to give him up’.
There is no mention of what sort of deal Elche are looking at, but it’s claimed the presence of other Argentines at the club could help ‘facilitate’ Rojo’s arrival.
The interest of other clubs is mentioned to, with Sheffield United, Newcastle and two other Spanish teams all thought to be after him too.
What Información don’t mention is the interest of Boca Juniors, who reports yesterday said were keen and ‘very close’ to getting a deal done.
It seems they now face competition from Elche, though, who are also eyeing up a move and the opportunity to give Rojo the exit he really wants.
