Manchester United star Mathijs de Ligt has admitted you can see a lack of self confidence in the squad at this moment in time, but he believes it will return quickly.
Soccer News cover comments from the defender, who has been speaking to Viaplay about the current situation at Old Trafford after a difficult start to the season.
Manchester United have disappointed so far in this campaign despite a busy summer transfer window that saw them spend big money to back Erik ten Hag and improve his squad.
De Ligt is one of those signings but none of them are yet to make a major contribution or improve matters after a disappointing eighth placed finish last season.
Manchester United have so far won just two of their six Premier League games and lost three, the latest a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford in which they were completely outplayed by Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The result wasn’t helped by Bruno Fernandes’ red card but in reality it was another poor, unconvincing display from Erik ten Hag’s side.
They are currently a team who appear to be lacking in confidence and belief, something De Ligt is willing to concede.
“It’s not something you process very quickly, although I’m normally someone who can immediately move on to the next match,” he said.
“That match (against Tottenham Hotspur) was difficult, especially because they had the same number of points as us.
“We have of course not achieved many points so far. You can see that in everyone’s self-confidence. Every football player knows that self-confidence is one of the most important things.”
