Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is a possible target for AC Milan as they look to find a replacement for Simon Kjaer.

The Serie A side need to find a replacement for the Danish defender this month after he was ruled out of the rest of the season through injury.

That, coupled with positive coronavirus tests for Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli, have left them short at the back, and work is underway to solve the issue.

And according to Sky Sports in Italy, cited by Milan Live, they have set their sights on a defender from England.

Journalist Alessandro Sugoni recently appeared in their studio to provide the latest news on Milan’s ‘hunt’, and according to him, they had ‘focused their attention’ on the Premier League.

He reported that Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are looking for a player similar to Tomori, someone who is ‘physical, agile and impetuous in one-on-one situations’.

Several profiles are being ‘evaluated’, and one of those is Manchester United’s Bailly, who has only managed seven appearances and 487 minutes in all competitions for United this season.

That could make him available and, according to Sugoni, Milan would be looking at a loan deal if they can get one, as they initially did with Tomori.

“Here, we are only at an assessment level,” he is quoted as saying.

“But the appreciation confirms that there are two strategies of Milan, and the purchase of Tomori is the emblem of what we are saying.

“The formulas can be a purchase for the future for which commit to a payment with the obligation of redemption or outright title, or a loan with right of redemption or even dry loan.”

Now, whether Manchester United would sanction such a deal isn’t mentioned, but given those numbers, it’s fair to say Bailly isn’t a key member of the squad.

Indeed, his time at Old Trafford has been something of a disappointment, and there’s every chance those in charge at the club could see this as a perfect opportunity to try and recoup their money.
