Fiorentina are keen on Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot but would have to convince him to lower his wages to make a move happen.
That’s according to La Nazione, relayed by Fiorentina.it, who say the Portuguese full-back is the man they ‘like’ as they look to strengthen in the position.
We covered a report from Italy yesterday that stated Fiorentina were keen on Dalot and had him on a list of possible options to reinforce the right-back position.
La Nazione now pick up on that state that Fiorentine ‘also like’ the Portuguese full-back, but there are ‘obstacles’ in front of the potential deal.
They explain that Dalot ‘appeals to Fiorentina’ because of versatility and the fact he knows Italian football well after spending time on loan at AC Milan.
A return to Italy is his ‘dream’, but the competition for his signature is high, and his salary at Manchester United is a problem.
He currently earns €3.5m a year at Old Trafford, a figure that is ‘not at all insignificant’ as far as Fiorentina are concerned. Indeed, it’s hinted that they would struggle to match that figure.
The interest is there, though, with them believing Dalot is the kind of ‘modern full-back’ that would fit perfectly into their team.
Whether Manchester United would let him go isn’t mentioned, although the fact he has been a regular under Ralf Rangnick suggests that they wouldn’t.
They could be forced to, however, as the defender’s contract is set to expire in 2023, and they will risk losing him on a free at that point if he doesn’t sign a new deal this summer.
That’s something Fiorentina might be looking to take advantage of, but they’ll need to work out the wage issue before they can try and convince Dalot into the move back to Italy
