Manchester United are going in low with their offer for Matthijs de Ligt, reports Bild on Monday.
The Premier League club have been repeatedly linked with the defender in recent months and at one point there was confidence in Germany that a transfer would go through for something over €50m.
Repeated articles mentioned Bayern Munich simply waiting for Manchester United to make an offer north of that figure, and it would then be a case of the Bundesliga club trying to push them a little higher.
Bild’s Christian Falk says the Red Devils have made a €35m offer for the 24-year-old. That has, unsurprisingly, been rejected by Bayern Munich.
The German club are said to be holding out for €50m as an initial fee plus bonuses on top of that. Negotiations continue between the two clubs, and Falk points out Bayern need to sell players before they can bring additions in this summer.
That situation could help Manchester United secure De Ligt for less than would otherwise have been the case, although €35m seems to be too low.
Bild further report that the offer is actually €30m initially plus a further €5m in potential bonus payments.
