Julián Álvarez impressed for River Plate in the recently concluded season in Argentina as he finished as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals [and seven assists] in 21 matches.

The forward’s fine form has caught the attention of top clubs across Europe. Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Monday that it’s ‘no mystery’ Manchester United are chasing him, but Inter Milan were said to be on pole to secure his services.

It was also explained the 21-year-old’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, is set to have meetings across various major cities in Europe.

The agent’s trip to the continent is now backed up by AS in Argentina, who state Hidalgo is already in Europe.

It’s claimed the first of these meetings took place on Monday, in Manchester, where the agent was set to meet the United executives. The Red Devils, today, are the Argentine international’s ‘main suitor’ and ‘intend to take him to Premier League right now’.

Álvarez’s contract with River Plater expires in December 2022 and it includes a €20m release clause.

The South American club plan to extend the star’s contract and retain him for at least one more year, so that he can have continuity this year and make it to Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
