It didn’t take very long for the Manchester United loanee Joel Pereira to cement his place at Belenenses in Portugal.

After having his first chance to start during a Cup game last week, the goalkeeper made it to the teamsheet again during the weekend, and now the Portuguese press already consider him to be the squad’s new number one.

CapturarNewspaper Record sat down with André Moreira, a former Belenenses goalkeeper who’s now at Atlético Madrid, to speak a bit about the Manchester United player.

“We both have a path in the national teams and I know Joel very well. It’s no surprise for me to see him asserting himself”, Moreira told Record.

“I watched the three games in which he played and he was very good in all of them. Besides knowing him well, I know, above all, what he is capable of. Joel Pereira has an enormous potential and if Manchester United loaned him to play for a club like Belenenses, I believe that the future prospects are very good.”

The Manchester United loanee is currently 20 years old, and has taken the spot from 28-year-old Hugo Ventura, who started the first eight games of the season.

Pereira signed a one-year contract at Belenenses, meaning he’ll be on loan until next summer. Last season, he spent three months on a short loan at Rochdale, but stayed at United for most of the season, despite making no official appearances.
