Manchester United will need to dig very deep into their pockets to sign FC Porto duo Samu Omorodion and Rodrigo Mora, with both protected by big release clauses.
That’s according to Record, who report on both players today and the apparent interest from Manchester United.
A report from England this week stated that Manchester United were eyeing the Porto duo as they look to be one of the most active teams in Europe in the January transfer window.
Samu and Mora have been impressing this season, with the former only behind Viktor Gyökeres in the goalscoring charts and the latter ‘completely decisive’ from a creative point of view.
Record point out that the striker has a contract until 2029 that includes a €100m release clause. Mora’s deal, meanwhile, expires in 2027 but has a ‘progressive termination clause’ that has a base value of €45m but could reach €80m. In other words, Manchester United are getting either player unless they drop significant sums of money to do so.
Whether they actually seriously want either player is debatable, though, as this whole rumour started because we here at Sport Witness pointed out that a Manchester United scout had travelled to watch Porto in action at the end of December.
In that report we stated that both players had good games in the 4-0 win over Boavista, which then sparked suggestions Manchester United wanted both of them.
In reality they’re probably just keeping a close eye on Portugal, as they have done for years, and those release clauses would discourage any January bids anyway.
