Manchester United are ending up being Benfica’s only hope to sell Nelson Semedo. At least for the price they want.

Despite the recent links with Barcelona, the Spanish and the Portuguese press have been saying that demands are too high for the Catalan side. Hector Bellerin from Arsenal is their priority, and the Portuguese newspapers are buying it.

Bayern Munich, who were the other club said to be interested, haven’t been linked in the past few months. So that basically leaves Manchester United alone in the race.

The word in Portugal is that Benfica will only start making moves in the transfer market after they sell Semedo, and maybe Konstantinos Mitroglou as well. They need this money to know how much they can spend, so letting them go is a priority.

According to O Jogo, the Eagles are demanding €50m for the right-back. And the last updates from the local papers have said Manchester United are preapred to advance with €35m, so the figures don’t have a huge gap.

Time is in Manchester United’s favour, so we reckon it’s more likely that Benfica would have to bring their price down if they genuinely want Semedo to end the summer at Old Trafford.
