A late Manchester United or Chelsea bid for Espanyol’s Martin Braithwaite seems unlikely, with Real Betis now bidding to sign him before the end of the transfer window.
BT in Denmark report that Betis have made their move for the Danish striker, who has been in impressive form for the second division Spanish side this season.
They report that Betis have bid €1m for Braithwaite, also offering a player in exchange to help their Spanish counterparts replace him.
Whether that is enough for Betis to get their man, with Espanyol wanting to keep him given his performances this season, remains to be seen.
Betis are in fact one of several teams to have come ‘knocking’, according to the TV station, who say Manchester United had also been linked with a potential move to bolster their own options. Betis, though, have stepped in front with an official bid.
La Grada in Spain, meanwhile, say that nothing is advanced but Betis have joined in the interest in the forward after letting Borja Iglesias join Bayer Leverkusen.
According to their information from sources at Espanyol, at the moment there is nothing impending when it comes to Braithwaite departing the club.
They make note of the ‘alleged’ interest from Manchester United and say that they were quoted a €5m figure if they wanted to sign him this month. That, seemingly, was as far as they went… if indeed it even got there.
Instead, it is Betis who are moving forwards and have shown an interest but even they would have to pay just under €7m to activate his release clause and so any €1m offer would be wide of the mark.
Either way, a move to Manchester United, or even the possibility of a late swoop, seems to be getting edged aside in Spain and Denmark, where the focus is now on Betis instead.
