Manchester United’s apparent interest in Palmeiras midfielder Richard Ríos has seen his price tag rise to €90m.
That’s at least if the latest comments from journalist Eduardo Rodrigues are to be believed, with him now insisting that Palmeiras want to see the midfielder’s release clause met this summer.
Ríos has found himself with a growing list of admirers this summer after impressing at the Copa América with Colombia, where he made it to the final and played a major role in that success.
He was ‘one of the revelations’ of the tournament and his great performances have aroused the interest of several clubs in Europe, with AC Milan, Juventus and Manchester United all now in the mix.
Those reports had made it clear while the player has a $100m release clause in his current contract, Palmeiras wouldn’t want that, and a deal can instead be done for much less.
Except, that appears to have now changed, with Rodrigues reporting that Palmeiras will stick to the release clause now.
“Palmeiras does not need money now and wants Richard for the 2025 Club World Cup,” he told Sport, before adding that the club won’t negotiate with anyone who won’t match the player’s €90m release clause.
That’s a sudden about turn on the matter from Palmeiras, who appear to have their eyes on the prize now Manchester United have apparently shown an interest.
Their demands were low when the likes of Everton were chasing Ríos but now United, who’ve spent big on the likes of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee this summer, are in the mix their opinion has changed.
Whether they’d even consider paying such an amount for the midfielder is up for debate, we’d suggest that they won’t.
