Last month, reports in England claimed that Manchester City are closing in on a summer deal for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
At the time, a source informed Sport Witness that Pep Guardiola’s team weren’t close to landing the midfielder and that the player’s representatives had received no contact from City.
The Spaniard was the topic of discussion on Cadena Ser’s Carrusel Deportivo and they reported they’d been told by people close to the player that there’s interest from Manchester.
However, not from City, which was denied… but from Manchester United.
When contacted by Sport Witness regarding this claim, the same source as earlier rubbished it, in pretty strong terms.
In 2017, Saul signed a long-term deal with Diego Simeone’s side and his contract at Wanda Metropolitano will run down in 2027.
He has a release clause of €150m in his current deal.
