Manchester United have been linked with Kieran Trippier for most of the summer window, with Atletico Madrid determined to keep the player.

Recent reports from France have said Lille’s Mehmet Zeki Çelik is on the Spanish club’s agenda.

Diego Simeone has the 30-year-old, Santiago Arias and Sime Vrsaljko as the three right-backs currently at his disposal.

AS on Friday explain Vrsaljko is hardly relied upon by the manager, while the La Liga winners are working on Arias’ exit.

Tripper started the first two matches from the bench, with Simeone starting Marcos Llotente as the right wing-back.

It would make sense for Los Rojiblancos to bring in a new right-back and AS say they like Mehmet Zeki Çelik due to his age [24 years old], potential for growth, and ability to contribute to attacks.

The England international is essential to Simone, and he’s said to have a €60m release clause. Manchester United have been ‘insisting’ on signing Tripper ‘all summer’, say AS, and Diogo Dalot’s potential departure could ‘provoke a new attempt’ from the Red Devils for the former Burnley man.

In the event he ends up staying and if Mehmet Zeki Çelik arrives, Atlético will have to take a decision on Vrsaljko.
