If you thought Manchester United were a mess on the field, then it’s hard to find the words to describe what is going on off of it.
The club, following two losses in the first two games of the season, appear to have found Ed Woodward’s old scattergun, reloaded it with fresh ammunition and unloaded it on the transfer market.
One of the areas they are trying to improve to help Erik ten Hag is the attack, and, having seemingly run out of fresh targets, decided to go back for old ones.
The latest to be mentioned is Alvaro Morata, who was once incredibly close to moving to Old Trafford, as AS in Spain claim Manchester United are ‘insisting’ in their attempts to try and sign the Spaniard.
In fact, the newspaper believe the amount needed to buy him from the La Liga side ‘has doubled’.
While he could have gone to Juventus for €35m had they decided to pay the clause in their loan deal for him, it’s now believed that ‘only a dizzying offer’, meaning ‘that a club arrive and pay €60-70m in the last 15 days of the market’ would make Atlético change their mind.
That’s money Manchester United are likely to end up spending on someone before the end of the transfer window, and if it ends up being Morata, when they could have had him for half of that a month ago, there might not be much left of Old Trafford to eventually refurbish.
