Manchester United are in the picture for Ronald Araújo and Sport reported on Sunday that Barcelona ‘know first hand’ the Red Devils have called the defender.
The 22-year-old spent a year in the Catalan club’s youth system before he made his first team debut in 2019. He has been featuring regularly since the end of 2020 and is now a vital fugure under Xavi Hernández.
Araújo has less than 18 months left on his current deal and Marca explain the defender’s contract situation is ‘worrying’ for the La Liga side. He is not close to signing a new deal and therefore, his ‘future is in doubt’.
The centre-back wants the Catalan club to offer him a new contract, in accordance with his performances on the pitch. Flavio Perchman, the agent of the Uruguay international, has ‘listened’ to the Blaugrana leaders, but remains unconvinced with the offer made by them.
Barcelona’s financial situation means they cannot offer the South American a vastly improved deal unless they sell one of their players.
The Red Devils get a mention and the newspaper states they are aware of the situation in which the Uruguayan finds himself at the Camp Nou.
Marca state that United, who have ‘already moved’ for the player, have made Araújo aware ‘how much they love him’ and ‘how far’ they are willing to go to secure his services.
To sum it up, Araújo wants an improved deal to continue at Barcelona, but their financial situation doesn’t allow them to meet his demands as of now. The Spanish giants need to sell one of their own players first to offer a new contract to Araújo, while United have ‘already moved’ to sign him.
