Robin van Persie will be staying at Feyenoord this summer, despite Manchester United eyeing him up as a potential assistant for Erik ten Hag.
That’s according to journalist Jan Joost van Gangelen, relayed here by Soccer News, who says the Manchester United icon is not interested in a return at this point.
They explain that with Ten Hag edging towards the United job, attention has now turned to who could be his assistant.
Ten Hag wants to put together a new team at Old Trafford, and the likes of Steve McClaren, René Meulensteen, Peter Bosz and Van Persie have all been named as possible assistants.
However, it was ‘unclear’ if Van Persie would accept the position from the outset as he is more than happy with his current role of assistant/striker trainer at Feyenoord.
Furthermore, one of his children is currently a part of the youth setup in Rotterdam, so the position allows him to be close to them as well.
Those factors have seemingly led him to turn down Manchester United, with van Gangelen reporting that he will stay at Feyenoord as he doesn’t see a move to Manchester ‘as an option’ for him at this moment in time.
That could always change in future, of course, but for the time being, he is happy where he is and won’t be a part of Ten Hag’s new set-up.
