Manchester United have held ‘contacts’ for VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy ‘in the last few hours’ as they seemingly gear up for a move in January.

That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say Manchester United are rivalling AC Milan for the striker’s signature.

Guirassy has been one of the hot topics of the Bundesliga season so far, with a tally of 16 goals in 11 league games so far seeing him compete with Harry Kane at the top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts.

He’s now being eyed up by numerous clubs in the January transfer window as he has a €17.5m release clause in his current contract with the German side.

Manchester United have been brought into the picture in recent weeks, with it claimed they want to bring in a low-cost option to help ease the pressure on Rasmus Hojlund.

TMW now say that Manchester United have now been in contact about a potential move, which is a problem for AC Milan.

The nature of those contacts isn’t made clear, for instance whether they’ve been with Stuttgart or the player and his environment, just that they’ve begun in recent hours.

That’s a clear step forwards for United, although they may need to convince the striker as he wouldn’t mind a stint in Italy or even the possibility of remaining in Germany until the end of the season.

Either way, Manchester United appear to now be firmly in the picture and providing ‘fierce competition’ to AC Milan, who also have him on their list.
