Manchester United are set to complete a deal with Cerro Porteño to sign Diego León.

On Friday, journalist César Luis Merlo reported the Red Devils have a deal in place with Cerro Porteño. He also stated the 17-year-old will arrive at Old Trafford next summer and sign a five-year deal.

León made his first team debut in August and has made 19 appearances for the Paraguay side so far. Manolo Jiménez gave him that opportunity earlier this year and manager left Cerro Porteño in September.

The Spaniard returned to management when APOEL FC appointed him as their new coach in October. He’s now had a chat with Versus to discuss the youngster’s ‘imminent transfer’ to Manchester United.

Jiménez is thrilled that the young South American is on the verge of agreeing a move to the Premier League.

“Manchester United have seen in him what I saw, what my teammates saw, I am honestly very happy that this signing can be completed. I hope everything goes well for him in everything that comes,” he said.

Paraguay journalist Pedro Torres broke the news about Manchester United’s efforts to sign the fullback. Torres has explained about the youngster’s journey and his talents for Sport Witness.

León’s former manager has now shared his views on the defender’s profile.

“He’s a prototype of a full-back in many attacking conditions, with his age, he still has time to improve in his defensive aspect, which is what he has to grow. Surely in Manchester they will give him the right job so that he can develop,” Jiménez explained.

The APOEL manager has backed León to have a bright future once he further improves his game.

“The day he’s clear about his decision-making, he will be a great player and won’t make mistakes that can’t be criticised but are typical for his age and his inexperience,” he added.

Ruben Amorim and his side have to wait until next summer for León to arrive in England.
