Manchester United are reportedly resisting offering more money to Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof. Although many reports said a deal had already been agreed for the amount of €50m, Friday’s edition of Record claims the Red Devils don’t want to spend more than €30m now.
José Mourinho isn’t very keen on signing another central defender during the January window, so there’s no reason to make much effort and reach Benfica’s demands.
Both clubs are still said to be talking, and now there’s the possibility of finding a gentleman’s agreement for the transfer to be done next summer.
What Manchester United want to pay is the €30m figure, which is Victor Lindelof’s current release clause.
The problem is that Benfica think he’s worth much more, and due to an agreement to renew the defender’s contract, they would raise his clause to €60m before selling him.
Despite being left out of two of Benfica’s last three matches, Lindelof is now set to rejoin the squad normally and take his important role back. He’s only missed one league game this season.
