Amid all the recent stories about Edinson Cavani’s potential return to South America, with him having reportedly made a promise to Boca Juniors, a new, unexpected rumour has appeared.
Pasión Futbol brings us an article on Wednesday saying Uruguayan side Danubio are now another club who would like to have the Manchester United star at their club next season.
It’s claimed that ‘according to rumours in Uruguay’, the club had some financial help and found a way to afford Cavani’s salary.
Danubio are the club where the striker started his career before making his move to European football, so they’d count on his affection to have him back.
There are obviously a few problems with the story. The first one is that it’s quite hard to see Danubio managing to make this signing.
In a recent interview, Cavani’s father said that in case of a return to South America, his son wouldn’t go back to Uruguay, mostly because he’d want to fight for bigger things than what the local clubs have to offer.
The second issue is that Pasión Futbol only mention the ‘rumours from Uruguay’, and our search only found another website, called Strikers, also mentioning these so-called sources from the striker’s home country.
However, neither of them makes it clear where the story came from.
This means that if you were to ask us, we’d probably consider Boca Juniors as the main contenders to have Cavani back in South America were he to leave Manchester United.
His contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season, and has an option to be extended for an extra year.
