Manchester United signed Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua in the winter 2019 transfer window. With the season extended due to the Covid-19 crisis, the forward saw the temporary deal also extended, until the end of this January.
Last season, Ighalo was given 599 minutes across the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League. During that time he managed to score five goals and add an assist, which wasn’t a bad return for the 31-year-old.
This season has been very different, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to other options.
Edinson Cavani’s arrival as a free agent made it clear Manchester United were looking at life beyond Ighalo’s stay, and so far this campaign he’s only got on the pitch for 157 minutes, with only nine of those coming in the Premier League.
His last appearance was in December, with a very short substitute chance against PSG in the Champions League.
Ighalo is now set to return to his Chinese club, but he may be off to another league. TMW report he has ‘some offers’ from Serie A, so has something to think about. There’s also offers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in his career, the striker had short spells with Udinese and Cesana.
