After Gelson Martins’ impressive performance at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League last week, we all knew it wouldn’t take long before big clubs started being linked to him.

The 21-year-old created enough danger to be praised by the Spanish media, and after being identified as a Real Madrid target, it’s now the English clubs who are said to be chasing him.

CapturarA Bola are claiming this Tuesday that Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham have all been watching the Sporting winger lately.

They say Gelson is not unknown to these clubs, since they are all used to watching Portuguese league games. However, he now a special place on their scouting lists.

The newspaper says that just five games into the season the clubs are expected to be taking notes about Gelson Martins after every Sporting game.

No approaches or contacts are mentioned, but he’s said to be closely followed by these clubs from now on.

Despite having a €60m release clause, Gelson is the worst paid player in the Sporting squad. A Bola claims he currently earns €180k per season. The club intend to give him a new contract soon, but as he has just changed his agent, this process should take a little time.
