On Tuesday, a report in Italy appeared claiming that Manchester United had made an offer of €55m for Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić.
It appears the Serbian is the player the Red Devils are targeting to replace the departing Paul Pogba, but money will have to be spent.
The report of a bid being made is corroborated by Corriere della Sera, who explain Manchester United’s offer of ‘under €60m does not satisfy the Lazio president’, Claudio Lotito.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t for sale, however, but the belief across the board is that the Serie A side want around €80m for their star.
Quotidiano push a similar line, pointing out that Manchester United’s ‘first offer did not meet the requests’ set by the Italians, who don’t intend to ‘give discounts to any suitor’.
However, there’s a bit more in here, with the outlet believing that Erik ten Hag and co. ‘will reorganise to present a new proposal, raising the offer to €65m’.
But, and it’s important, ‘the feeling is that it will not be enough to change Lotito’s mind’, which could then lead Manchester United to rethink everything, and means their ‘market strategies could change’.
Something to keep an eye on.
