Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Ousmane Dembele by the Catalan media. Towards the end of the last transfer window, it was repeatedly reported there’d been an offer from Old Trafford to take the player on loan from Barcelona.
At one point the move was presented as being close, however, the Frenchman rejected the idea, preferring to stay at the Camp Nou and fight for his future with the club.
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports Barcelona’s priority is now to agree a renewal with the player. Dembele’s current contract expires in June 2022 and losing him on a free transfer is something Ronald Koeman’s side must avoid.
Dembele is said to appreciate Barca’s intention to offer a new deal, but he wants to think about his situation before committing to anything.
When it comes to Manchester United, there’s a suggestion the Red Devils can come forward with a January offer, although it’s likelier that would be for a loan. Given that’s not what Barcelona would want, and after the injury to Ansu Fati, the likelihood of success is low.
The Catalan club would much prefer a renewal, if only to protect their player’s value.
