Thursday saw reports from Germany that Matej Kovar is set to leave Manchester United for a new experience in German football.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper needs to pick up some experience to help his career progress, and has been given the opportunity to join Bayer Leverkusen.
Bild now report that Kovar has already travelled to Leverkusen, and they say his move from Manchester United is ‘imminent’. The deal will ‘probably’ be concluded on Friday, and the stopper will sign a contract lasting until June 2027.
According to Bild, Bayer Leverkusen will be paying €5.5m for Kovar. Reports on Thursday had stated there would also be bonuses involved, with Manchester United having a percentage of a future sale – or likely the profit from one – and the opportunity to buy the player back.
The German newspaper quote Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as saying on Friday morning: “We will see. It’s not official yet. Of course there is interest. That can happen quickly.”
Bild believe it will be very quickly, and Matej Kovar is living his last hours as a Manchester United player… for now at least.
