Even though we’ve recently seen reports from Mexico saying Cruz Azul were in talks to sign Marcos Rojo from Manchester United, it’s really the Argentine media who are more confident of his arrival.

Local claims continue to say that Boca Juniors and Estudiantes de La Plata are battling for the 30-year-old, and here are some of the latest updates.

Marcos Rojo is currently in his home country, and when spotted playing a match in a blue and yellow kit at the weekend, people already started wondering if it meant he’s signing for Boca Juniors. That was actually a friendly game he featured in for Agrupación de Fútbol Infantil Las Malvinas, a youth club who are managed by his brother Franco Rojo.

However, the deal with Boca Juniors indeed seems close, at least according to El Dia. They claim his transfer to the La Bombonera side could be done ‘in the coming hours’, with the club being quite optimistic about it.

Estudiantes are said to still be alive in the race, as reported by El Intransigente at the weekend. It’s claimed the club are matching Boca Juniors’ offer and counting on Rojo’s love for them to agree his return.

Regardless of what his choice will be, Marcos Rojo’s departure from Manchester United seems very close. By letting the defender stay in Argentina and even play friendly matches, that only shows they’re not really concerned about him being back at the club, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
