After spending time with their B team, Athletic Club Bilbao goalkeeper Álex Remiro had temporary spells at Levante and Huesca in the past two years.
On his return to his parent club in the summer, the 23-year-old found out that he was third choice stopper behind Kepa Arrizabalaga and Iago Herrerín.
After Kepa joined Chelsea in August, Unai Simón was promoted to the first team and he is currently the first choice player in his position. Remiro’s contract with his current employer runs down in 2019 and according to Mundo Deportivo, Real Sociedad have an pre-agreement in place for the player to join them next summer.
However, his arrival in San Sebastián is in danger because Manchester United have entered the race. The Red Devils are ready to pay a compensatory fee so that the Spaniard can break the deal he has with Asier Garitano’s side and move to Old Trafford instead.
Jose Mourinho’s side signed Lee Grant before the start of the season and he joins David de Gea and Sergio Romero as the recognised stoppers at the club, with Joel Pereira out on loan.
As of now, it makes little sense for Manchester United e side to sign Remiro in January or next summer, unless one of the three keepers at Old Trafford are looking for a way out.
