Manchester United could be a late solution for Roma striker Edin Dzeko as he looks to leave the club, according to eyebrow raising claims from Italy.

Dzeko has been linked with a move away from Roma before Monday’s deadline after a major falling out with the Serie A side has seen him stripped of the captaincy and left to train alone.

A return to the Premier League, where he spent four years with Manchester City before joining Roma on loan in 2015, has been mooted but so far there has been no serious interest.

Quotidiano, however, say that it should not be ruled out that Manchester United offer a ‘last-minute solution’ to the 34-year-old.

They speculate that despite United having seemingly solved their striker issues with the arrival of Edinson Cavani in the summer, adding another striker could be a ‘wise choice’ given their Premier League and Europa League commitments.

Dzeko would appreciate the move as he has already lived and played in Manchester but also because he would join a ‘high-level’ club and be offered an ‘interesting career ending’.

It would leave Roma short and looking for another striker late in the window, which would not be an easy task.

That suggests the move is unlikely to happen; indeed it was always a little speculative, but still, one to keep an eye on as stranger things have happened at the end of transfer windows before now.
