It seems that Victor Lindelof’s and Nelson Semedo’s transfers to Manchester United are not so close to being done, after all.
According to Record, both players will be available for Benfica’s match against Paços Ferreira tonight, meaning the club don’t expect to close the deals before then.
It was expected that Lindelof’s farewell match was the one against Rio Ave before Christmas, but some delay may have changed the plans. According to the BBC, that delay is Jose Mourinho deciding he doesn’t need a defender, but that’s being ignored for now.
The newspaper keeps insisting that both transfers are set to be done “in the next few days”, even though that initial rush has already passed.
The moves are already taken as certain by the Portuguese newspapers. Record mentions that the manager Rui Vitória will now have some hard work to replace the duo, and O Jogo are reiterating it as well.
Breaking the news to the Portuguese media that Manchester United don’t actually want the transfers at this stage could be like telling a child Father Christmas doesn’t exist.
