On December 30th, TyC Sports explained the agent of Julián Álvarez ‘received a call’ from Manchester United to know the conditions to sign the River Plate star.
The forward has starred this season, scoring 24 goals and registering 15 assists in 46 matches in all competitions. His contract expires next December and it includes a release clause of €20m.
It’s no surprise his impressive displays for River Plate have seen him get linked with clubs across Europe.
According to Sport, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have showed interest, but the Old Trafford club would ‘lead the rest of the suitors’ in the chase for the attacker.
The South American club have ‘already warned’ they will ‘not negotiate’ for anything less than the €20m release clause. The Red Devils, for their part, have sent scouts to watch the attacker in action for River Plate and have received positive reports.
It’s claimed Fernando Hidalgo, the Argentina international’s representative, is set to travel to England in the coming days, to ‘try to close’ his client’s transfer.
Sport’s title states United ‘prepare an offer’ for Álvarez and within the report, they explain they would be ‘willing to pay’ his €20m buyout clause.
Marca also report about the agent’s upcoming trip to England and add United are willing to pay his clause. They further explain the English club are ‘determined’ to sign the player and ‘there could be news in the next few days’.
It’s also worth pointing out that Calciomercato.it claimed down their end on Thursday that there was no scheduled meeting with Manchester United for Alvarez, but that his agent would be arriving in Europe on January 2nd.
A bit of conflicting information there, but if he does make the trip across the Atlantic, it wouldn’t be very hard to set up a quick meeting with the Red Devils.
